This is an original tune on the Bob Carlin BC-350plus, tuned gCGCD, clearly one of my favorite tunings. This banjo has a 12" pot, a wider-than-normal fingerboard and a frailing scoop. I had a skin head put on this one to increase the mellowness of sound. I love the primitive nature of the tone.

I spoke to Bob Carlin about how this instrument - which is named after him - came about. The results of that conversation will be posted on my website: http://www.banjocrazy.com/ along with some photos of Bob with my banjo, as it was being set up at the Gold Tone factory. Bob is one of the preeminent clawhammer players in the world. His input into the old-time instruments Gold Tone is producing has had a notable effect on the quality and imagination that goes into them.

Please visit my website http://www.banjocrazy.com/ where I represent Gold Tone banjos. I also have interviews with wonderful banjo players like Adam Hurt, Marcy Marxer, Bob Carlin, Cathy Moore, Cathy Fink and others. I'll be adding tabs and other fun stuff, so keep me posted.

Regards,
PauL

  • Love the sound you're getting!

  • @zoozzz20

I'm glad you like it. I think the instrument sounds a lot better now that the skin head has had a chance to break in. I hope you'll listen to the tunes I've posted recently.

  • Whoever the piece of shit was that gave this a thumb down, I hope your mother dies on your birthday.

  • @Blazer637 We all have our own musical preferences; that's the fun thing about it.

  • @strumstering You're right. I was just caught in the moment by how insanely good your music is.

  • Now I get it, you use the middle finger. Cool.

Now I'm wishing you had ordered yours from me: )

I felt that the straight line tailpiece improved the tone. As for the bridge, I'm using the one that came on it - no complaints.

    Cheers,

  • Thanks Paul. I ordered mine with a skin head as well because I like the tone of yours so well. Also, I was asking about the tailpiece because I wondered if this is a change you would recommend to me. Does this tailpiece improve the tone? Last question: what type of bridge do you recommend?
