Gold Tone BC-350+ Clawhammer Banjo "Drunken Frog"

This is an original tune on the Bob Carlin BC-350plus, tuned gCGCD, clearly one of my favorite tunings. This banjo has a 12" pot, a wider-than-normal fingerboard and a frailing scoop. I had a skin head put on this one to increase the mellowness of sound. I love the primitive nature of the tone.

I spoke to Bob Carlin about how this instrument - which is named after him - came about. Bob is one of the preeminent clawhammer players in the world. His input into the old-time instruments Gold Tone is producing has had a notable effect on the quality and imagination that goes into them.

I felt that the straight line tailpiece improved the tone. As for the bridge, I'm using the one that came on it - no complaints.

Thanks Paul. I ordered mine with a skin head as well because I like the tone of yours so well. Also, I was asking about the tailpiece because I wondered if this is a change you would recommend to me. Does this tailpiece improve the tone? Last question: what type of bridge do you recommend?
