2010 People's Freedom Caravan Protest Peabody Coal

This is video 3 of a series of 4 that make up a video journal. The KUNM Youth Radio Project attended the 2010 US Social Forum in Detroit, MI, June 2010, by way of the People's Freedom Caravan (PFC), organized by The SouthWest Organizing Project (SWOP), Southwest Workers Union (SWU) and Southern Echo. The PFC stopped in various communities along the way to the 2010 USSF, where the Caravan Freedom Riders stood in solidarity with the activists and grass roots organizers.
Description:

The Caravan's second stop was St. Louis, MO where the Caravanistas stood in solidarity with local activist protesting Peabody Coal, whose headquarters is in St. Louis, MO. Peabody Coal claims coal as an alternative energy source but it is highly detrimental to the environment and Coal mining devastates the land, the communities and the people who live on the land. KUNM Youth Radio Project's Josh Horton interviews Cecilia Frescas, a youth activist at SWOP, and Lucia Martinez, a youth activist at SWOP and a KUNM Youth Radio Producer, about their experience in St. Louis, MO.

It is amazing how these two teenagers know so much about what is going on in the United States. I didn't know how detrimental Peabody Coal is to our environment.

In this People Freedom "Rider" Caravan this video shows a snip-bit of what another person/corporation has sent their spores of greed into the air and into the people around them. This is not the only hungry monster that only works for its own personal greed without a heart for others. There are others in the world but until we do something about this we shall only be complainers. The People's Freedom Caravan is fighting. Enjoy this video.
