Another way around it is to use a camera that syncs at all speeds with non fp flashguns and syncs at all speeds with studio strobes because it doesn't use a narrow slit at high shutter speeds. e.g. Nikon D40, D50 and many others.

Man you have some of the info right but if you are going to preach like you are the gospel. You should take time to fully understand!

@austinh430 If you're mostly gonna shoot action sports with high image quality the price of a flash should be the least of your worries, because a good tele-lens is going to make your wallet feel alot more raped than this flash which you don't need anyway ;)

Actually the shutter doesn't move any faster once it gets to about 250th. It physically can't.
The space between the curtains gets narrower at higher shutter 'speeds'. The flash fires once the first curtain opens fully, but because the second curtain follows it so closely (the faster the shutter speed the closer the two get) you get the band of black.
Also, drifter281lottie331:
The YN460 II flash cannot do hi-speed sync.
In speedlights, HSS is what separates the boys from the men.
what if your a beginner to photography and your shoots action sports would you still want to buy the 600 or higher flash cause their really expensive
