Here's a rare clip showing not only the 1st U.N.C.L.E. " Special " in basic pistol form ( as carried in a shoulder holster, spy style ) but also in the fully assembled carbine form. In this clip a U.N.C.L.E. ( " United Network Command for Law and Enforcement " ) " Enforcement Agent " ( guest star Roosevelt Grier ) is assembling and upgrading / upgunning his basic pistol into carbine form. The pistol is a modified german 1934 Mauser in 7.62 mm Browning calibre. Already a long barrel has been attached / screwed on. The long barrel is the 2nd type and the most widely used version. It can be idendified by the metallic " bulge " half way along which is used as a grip when screwing it on and when firing ( the 1st version's " bulge " was made of wood ) and the muzzle end also has a " bulge " / flash - muzzle supressor ( the 1st version had a smooth muzzle end, no " bulge "). The 1st barrel was only used in some early promo photo's. The pistol's hand grips were removed and replaced with ones that had a slot on the back for the telescopic shoulder stock / rod to be attached, and on the left side ( opposite to our view ) a hollow square / U - shaped slot ( female ) for the optic sight ( male ) to be pushed down / attached. The optic sight had to be fitted back to front / wrong way around as the attachment " slot " and sight mount would have covered the ejection opening / ejection port on the right side of the pistol. The first thing we see is the special long magazine being loaded / inserted. At the time there were no long pistol magazines available so they welded 2 x standard magazines together; the weld seam would be very hard to spot and would be flush with the bottom of the pistol grip. The scene is from the 1st Season episode " The Brain - Killer Affair " ( which had Yvonne Craig as a guest star / " innocent " ). Due to reliability and ammunition issues ( 7.62mm Browning was expensive ), very soon they changed to using the World War 2 german 9mm Parabellum Walther ( pronounced " Wal-tar " ) P 38 which were in plentiful supply, utterly reliable and the 9mm ammunition was cheaper; some P 38's were borrowed from the " Combat " TV show. It was also thought that the 1934 Mauser was too small and overpowered by all the attachments. The P 38's were modified in the same way. I will be uploading a slow motion - forward version too. Regards.

  • @gaIIery Hi, yes absolutely ! Both in basic pistol form and fully assembled carbine form; plus either the 1st 1934 Mauser version and the 2nd Walther P38 version. Thanks for commenting; regards.

  • Isn't that the coolest weapon ever designed?

  • @22Bigmoe Hi, yes that's him; also confirmed by the book I have about the show ( they use his full name " Roosevelt Grier " ). They also state that " a special holster was constructed for him in light of his huge size. " You can see this in another clip of mine where he has his coat off ( straps at the back; etc ). Regards.

  • Rosie Greer !!! NFL defensive lineman!!!! He was with the N.Y. Giants at a time but I think he was playing with the Los Angeles Rams in this segment. Him and Merlin Olsen. Unbelievable!
