This is one of the many versions of While Shepherds Watched, a lively version sung in many pubs around Sheffield, and Dentdale. This was the Friday evening session at the Old Harrow in Grenoside, the night before the biannual Festival of Village Carols organised by Ian Russell.

  • Hello kischacoquillas - did you manage to get the score for Pentonville? If not, just send me an email Cheers, David

  • OUr choir sings this in Lancaster - a west gallery choir called the Gladly Solemn Sound - you might have heard us.The tune is called Pentonville - it's one of the most popular of the Sheffield Village carols - along with Old Foster, John Foster's arrangement of While Shepherd's Watched. Let me know if you would like some help getting the dots.

  • Wonderful! Hope to get the score. You reminded me of Brinsley Burbidge, whom I knew years and years ago.

  • I would love some help for that thanks!

  • This sounds great. We might do this in our choir up in Preston for Christmas. Whats the tune you are singing it to?
