these were the Derby horses on their deceleration run right after the finish. Big Brown was 1st, 8 Bells finished 2nd but actually passes by us 3rd (~11 seconds in the video). this was about 100 yds from where she fell. hard to believe this was her final seconds :`(

I apologize for the bouncy camera work. The video was taken with a small digital picture camera. I didn't think that anything particularly important was about to happen. At ~26 seconds you can see her fallen on the track.

RIP 8 Bells, you ran your heart out and no one who watched the Kentucky Derby that day will ever forget you!

  • I think it heartless to assume you know what was going on in my head. If you were there, I'm sure you would have noticed there was a lot of confusion about what happened. Nobody was expecting a horse to fall. did you even read my comments and description? this was taken with a small digital camera. I didn't even know I had video of her on the ground until I viewed it on the computer. even then, it is barley visible. I only posted it because I thought it may be important to some people.

  • @jfinan71

um.....i cant see where she fell i read your description. this makes me sad. this reminds me of ruffian's and barbaro's injuries. but um at .26 which horse was she? i cant tell which one she is. like what number is she?

  • @SuperVancouverBC I know, It's hard to see...I didn't know what was about to happen, nobody did. She is the 3rd horse to pass (green number, jockey has white and red silks) about 10-11 seconds. At 26-27 seconds you can see a dark horse laying down by the rail in the distance. At that time nobody even knew a horse had fell. She was a beautiful horse with a lot of spunk.

  • @jfinan71 Read about her sire, Unbridled's Song when you get a chance. He throws fast, precoious, and fragile foals. 3 others of his, including Midshipman, were all injured on the Triple crown trail. The article is on Wilkepedia.

  • @SHELLMADDE I didn't know that, thanks I'll check it out!

  • Yeah.. and what really pissed me off is when she fell down they took FOREVER to show what was going on. All they cared about was that horse that one.

In my mind I think a horse that's hurt needs more attention that the one that won ._.

  • @RinSere But that's not how racing works because that's not how it's financed =(

  • What happened?

  • i seen it...it was sad

  • I SAW her she was at 0:26 at a pause poor girl

  • @jfinan71 Even if you cant see the fall it is good to remember that this was her LAST 100 yards tht she will ever run! Its for memories more than seeing what happened! I mean honestly i think that it is absolutley horrific seeing the actual colapsing moment. :) R.I.P Eight Bells~

  • the 29 female horse to race... she came second to big brown which was a big deal but the sadly after the race she collapsed due to two shattered ankles in the front end of the horse, it is sad she was a Beloved filly and we were all rooting for her all the way R.I.P Eight Belles :'( we will always remember you

it was human stupidity which could have prevented this ='(
