@Mercury888 You're thinking of Stand By-- simply put, Hibernate mirrors RAM to HDD, then powers down.
-
question: Doesn't this drain the battery if you are in hibernate?

@o19Productions Yes, everything that will work on regular Windows 7 will work on Embedded Standard. You just have to make sure you add support for the appropriate devices and software you want to run. The only major drawback is that it's expensive for hobbyist users because it's meant for OEM and embedded developers. The tools and OS license can be a few hundred dollars, much more than just a Win7 license.

This is EXACTLY what I'm looking to do in my 05 WRX. I'm just starting my research. Any suggestions? What happens when you tick it over from accessories to start the car? Does the system lose power?

@klimovski Check out mp3car.com for supplies. You'll need an automotive power supply. It runs off the main battery, but turns on/off just as other accessories and is able to survive as you crank. You can also find a double-din housing as I have to replace your headunit.

@sfiorito Where have you mounted the PC?
klimovski 8 months ago
@klimovski The PC is mounted in a VoomPC 2 case under the passenger seat. The cables run under the center console up to the back of the double-din screen. The GPS is simply wedged into the corner of the passenger side windshield with USB cable running under the kickplate then coming out right under the seat and into the USB port.
