Controversial Barack Obama New Yorker Cover 7/14/2008

This is the cover for the 'New Yorker Magazine' that goes on sale Monday 7/14/2008.

The cover depicts Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama in Muslim garb 'fist-bumping' his wife Michelle. Mrs. Obama is wearing an afro and hoisting an automatic rifle across her shoulders.

Notice that the American flag is burning in the fireplace on the bottom right. A portrait of Osama Bin Laden is hanging on the top right. Is this promoting fear or irresponsible journanlism? Is it par for the course since the New Yorker is known for its over the top satire?

I know this is a bit late, but all the elements of this cover have an element of truth or if wouldn't have been such a popular cover.

uhm it is COMPLETELY a satire, do you know what the title of the cover is? its "the politics of fear" it makes fun of people who actually beliece the dumb stuff they hear. in that issue of the New Yorker (and i would know because i subscribe) there was a really long article about obama, and how he got started, and his roots in chicago and everything. it is very much in support of him.

the cover is misleading is because it is trying to be. it is misleading on purpose, its a sarcastic, cynical satire, making fun of people who think that that is the truth and that the magazine in portraying the real truth. the cover is titled, "The Politics of Fear"
