@MrSlaveMentality This song was written about a southern white minstrel dancer who performed in the mid 1900s. The song was written by a white singer/song writer; Jerry Jeff Walker. The only racial connotation exists because most people assume a street dancer would be black. Many black singers no doubt envision the person they are singing about as being black. In any case, the song hauntingly reminds us of those poor performers [ black or white] with the magical gift and grace to make us happy.
