The Brittany Spaniel, this HPR (Hunt, point, retrieve) is a very versatile hunting dog. It can range a large area and as such will happily run all day every day. Can you keep up though, and do you have a big enough sense of humour?

  • That dog would be great in the field. Always smelling, lots of energy. I also have a brit. Did you know they are not a spaniel? AKC removed them from the spaniel breed when DNA was available.

  • @edpleasure thanks for your comment. Yes, he is indeed a good dog for the field. When we were in France we got loads of offers, one for 1000 euro's!! He is much calmer now and is more precise about his hunting, he even "creeps" which is fabulous to watch.

Yep, well aware of the dropping of the word spaniel. In France, their country of origin they are L'Epagneul Breton =The Brittany Spaniel. I say just "Brittany". Really it should be Breton = someone from Brittany :o)

  • Your dog acts Alot like mine :)

But can brittany Spaniels come in a Dark Liver Color?

Because When we adopted our dog they said she was a Brittany Spaniel. But she is Dark liver brown like An English Springer.

Anyways awsome Video. Your dogs Very cute<3

  • @3mmygirl24 - thanks for message. Yep, liver and white is a Brittany colour. Always nice to hear from a fellow Brittany owner.

  • Heh you put sense of humour but what's also important is patience ha ha. As they can be difficult to train, head strong and stubborn xD At least ours was.

  • @DriedGooshies - Thanks for your comment.

Yep, you are quite right. Owning a Brittany demands patience, tolerance and strength of arm and character! Our lad is very strong willed, he simply has a one track mind, that being to hunt, which is what he was bred for of course. He is four and half now and we have yet to hold his attention for more than a few seconds.

The breed has it's rewards, but if you can't offer it hours of exercise and a kind, patient hand then it is not the breed for you.

  • Adorable doggy. So glad to see him with his tail undocked! :)

  • That is so typical of the Brittanys I've been around. My Jake is just as silly. You gotta love em!

  • @edpleasure Actually the AKC dropped the Spaniel from the name because they point where almost all of the other spaniels are flushers. They still come from the French Spaniel roots. The CKC still calls them Brittany Spaniels.

  • I'm just glad my Brittany likes me enough to come back and I don't have to run with her.
