Since its announcement less than three years ago, the Volt has become one of the most anticipated electric vehicles in development. Unlike other EV's, the Volt conquers what industry insiders are calling "range anxiety" with its extended range capability. After traveling 40 miles on electricity from a single battery charge, Voltec technology kicks in a gas powered generator continuing to run the vehicle for another 300 miles. This week at the Los Angeles Auto Show journalists and even consumers will get to test this breakthrough technology and drive a fully operational Volt. Chevrolet says the car is on track to hit show rooms in November 2010. Available video includes b-roll of the Volt and from the LA Auto Show, as well as soundbites from Kim Reynolds of Motor Trend and Tony Posawatz of Chevrolet.
The car is being designed to drive at least 40 miles on pure electricity stored in the battery from overnight home charging. After that the gas engine will kick in and allow the car to be driven up to 400 miles on a full tank (~8 gallons) of gas. So even if it is your so called "230 mpg" its worthless if if gets less mileage than other cars. do your research

So why did VW not think if it first, or anyone do it before, if it isn't that impressive?
Chevy wins: 230 mpg...deal with it.

An amazing car that really puts Toyota to shame...Did everyone see after Toyota made fun of GM and said the Volt would never work, THEY are now trying to offer a plug-in like the Volt?!?!?! And one year late and terrible mileage compared to the Volt.
Wow, Chevy you surprised me...You will have the most efficient car in the world...

another example of how marketing n lobby makes a mockery of common sense.

-continued Meaning this car which they tried so hard to make eco-friendly is more harmful then existing cars. So whats the point of this car? there are cars that can do better that isn't allowed in the US since they would bankrupt the American car companies.

Old railroad diesel trains had generators recharged by the diesel engine. So this really isn't that impressive. And having a car travel 340 miles with the generator and batteries is pointless. the VW lupo 3L does 700.54 miles per tank(78MPG with a 8.91 gallon tank), the VW Scirocco does 65 mpg with a 14.5gallon tank(812.5 miles per tank). And the VW polo does 60 mpg with a 11.28 gallon tank(676.81 miles per tank).
