Pick Your Part Junkyard Fire
June 5, 2010
Wilmington CA, USA
If the city of Wilmington had proper zoning and land use conditions for a junkyard, this fire never would have occurred. Fire trucks could not get to the fire because there were no roads wide enough to allow access to the Pick Your Part junkyard. There were also no fire hydrants in the area to connect to. The fire department had to set up their hoses one and a half blocks away to deliver water to the facility.
This fire lasted for over 32 hours, polluting the air with toxic materials from sources such as gasoline, diesel fuel gas, motor oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, grease, batteries, interior fabric material, interior vinyl material, interior leather material, floor rugs, plastic parts, rubber tires, plastic rim covers, convertible fabric roofs, trunk material lining, windshield wipers, and car paint.

as much as I'm in favor of protecting the environment; the refinery is just to far (sorry, but you are wrong)
FOAM could be used and put out the fire (FAST!!!), and I have no idea why thy just don't use it (LAFD ?? can answer)
