The Federal Government did not create the States; the States created the Federal Government in order to serve the common needs of the States.

You are presumtuous to assume that there would be 50 separate nations existing had there not been the idea that we are nation. There is the possibility that some states, or "nations" if you will would never have been in existance, while others would have had a different geographical shape. For example, Southern Idaho would most likely be part of the nation of Deseret, known as the state of Utah, due to the history and population of Mormons living there.

All 50 states should remain together. Collectively we should leave Washington DC, cordon off the city and leave the politicians to choke on their paper money and fornicate with their lobbyists.
