Think more about making food than keeping it. Your guns wont mean jack shit if there is nothing to defend, because in the long term, robbing and burgling is moronic in the long term of a SHTF scenario. This won't matter in the USA, since the legality level of guns will delay a pecking order being founded because you can just shoot at anyone who asserts authority, rather than being scared of their physical prowess.

And yes, Roman soldiers received salt as a percentage of their earnings. This was called Salarium (Latin for salt = sal). Salary. In fact, some believe that the word Soldier comes also from the Latin "Saldare", those who get salt (as part of their wages).
Salt is important. Some think gold and silver will be the base for all trade. IMHO, I believe barter of products and services will be more important; ammo and salt will most likely be the best currency, and they're still cheap. Get them now.

you need to think about nutrition... not that many people are... look up the vitamins... electrolytes... and the foods that contain the most water... you need a few bottles of salt substitute.. if the shyt really hits the fan... there will be very few sources of calcium and potassium, which are both needed for muscle contraction, and your heart is a muscle... just a lil fyi

@sailingmanuel Glad to help, Ive started working on my own. I will try to remember updating when i test some used fryer oil in an oil lamp, Even regulars scented pretty strongly when its burnt. So, may want to test out some in the cheapest oil lamp you can find, see if the scents too much... nothing like being prepared. :)
Continued, guns are therefore not worth it in human society since in the long term, as guns delay natural growth and estabilishment of a natural pecking order. Lack of firearms makes reconstruction much simpler and sensible. Which is why guns should be as illegal as in the UK. Guns cannot be fought against, no matter how many people you have. This is especially noteworthy with criminals.

@Pawnbroker00 Crime seems to have exploded in the UK when you outlawed guns. And it looks like your police have been taking away a lot of your rights away too. Here where I live I can concealed carry a hand gun and the bad guys know better than to rob someone here. And The government can't just roll over us because we could always fight back if we live under a tyranny. I know we see thing differently but I am going to hold on to my guns and will fight to keep them. Thanks for the comment.

Many preppers worry about the Na content of food, which is alright. What they often forget is to store salt, our bodies need it, and eventually all the processed food will be gone. If you're lucky enough to get some deer, which is usually much more that you can consume in about 3 days in a WROL, you want to store the rest for the long term. Salting and smoking are good for that. Smoke is not always an option, if trying to keep a low profile. Store salt. It will become currency as it has before.

The only thing is, if the periods more than a couple years, I hear the oil goes rancid after awhile, and considering the majority is in plastic? I cant see the supply lasting more than a few years tops... course, after then? its good for oil lamps, and kerosene heaters as an alternative fuel for them....
