Since early 2007, the Club of Madrid, in collaboration with FRIDE, has undertaken a series of dialogue missions to strengthen democracy and promote freedom of association in North Africa and the Middle East. Here, Club of Madrid Member, Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Prime Minister of Norway, discusses the importance of freedom of association as an integral part of democratic reform and talks about his experience leading a Club of Madrid/FRIDE mission to Morocco and about best practices for establishing dialogue between stakeholders.
