I've modified my Alesis DM10 medeli drumpads upgrading them to mesh. For comparison issues I made this video. Just listen ;) you can say that the sound of the stock pads is more tacky and louder while the sound of the modified pad is quieter and more thud-like. The rebound behaviour is very close to an acoustic kit. For the mesh conversion I rearranged the pad layer order (from top to bottom): mesh head, black foam (with hole in the middle), resonator plate being flipped over, white foam, housing. Trigger settings needed some tweaking afterwards, but no serious thing. To gather more information visit dmdrummer.com and hellfiredrums.com, helped me a lot :)

for better results you must move the metal plate or remove it.......because the playing surface is too hard .....put the metal plate betwen the 2 pieces of foam

@drumdemon3 where did you buy the foam,,im considering getting the dm8 and putting the foam like you did,, how much quiter did it get in percentage,,like 50%

@tHickman95 you dont even need to mess around and do the complicated stuff this guy is saying.I have a DM5 kit and all i did was took the old head off,put some soft blue foam i bought (cut to size) on top of the pad the way it was,then put a mesh head on.it now sounds really quiet and feels like a real drum.

you need some soft foam under ur mesh heads coz they still sound loud as hell.I put mesh heads on my dm5 and cut some soft foam to fit under.they now feel real and make almost no noise
