Bix and Tram's revolutionary 1927 recording.

"Singin' The Blues is basically made up of two thirty-bar solos, successively executed by Tram and Bix, both accompanied by Eddie Lang. It would be more exact to speak of two duets because the part played by the guitarist is so original and inspired - more than accompanying the two solos, it flows inside them."

  • if i could own a dog or cat i would name them "bix".

  • I once had a great cat named Bix ... if I ever end up with 2 cats who happen to be brothers they'll definitely be named Bix and Tram

  • Louis Armstrong, just prior to his death, stated that 'soon I'll be playing with Bix. My uncle played with Bix and in the late 50's introduced me to his music and it was the beginning of a life long love affair.

Thanks for the photos and posting.

  • A wonderful presentation that does more than fair justice to Bix and co with this most poignant and difinitive of their collaborations. For some reason I kind of feel emotional when I hear this recording, and with your slide show, a tear or two welled up in my eyes!

  • Preciosa Bix ............ César

  • Thank you MookRyan for this upload. Besides loving everything going on in this recording I'm delighted to hear it beginning to end as the melodic implications this piece has had on American (and World) music have created so much of what I have grown to love and perhaps taken for granted prior to understanding how influential Bix and Tram were. The guitar was a surprising delight. Excellent.

  • Jimmy Dorsey plays the short clarinet solo.

  • I'm making new converts with this one. Thank you.

  • Respond to this video... Great jazz of the Roaring Twenties!

  • @sailin1934 Who cares what you'd name your dog or cat or yourself - what's that got to do with the greaest jazz cornetisist (sp?) of the Roaring Twenties?

  • Really nice montage and happy to discover this cool jazz..

  • great choice mookryan, i never thought of that, also if the cat had a litter, you could have names for them all, what a great concept, they would truly be "swingin' cats".
