This is a better recording of a song that got my attention on a somewhat rough video somebody posted from the Not Strictly Bluegrass festival in SF. Yes, Iris DeMent is indeed a treasure. Maybe if more people listened to her, things would get better faster. Hang in there Iris! You make it easier for the rest of us with your beauty and your soul!

I'm impressed by her lyrics, thoughtfulness and clarity. She is a treasure almost a touchstone of what's important, although I imagine that would embarrass her. Still she's just terrific. Mike Hortens

I don't really care about what she looks like, but if it matters any I thinks she looks like an angel. I care about her voice and honestly I think she has one of the most beautiful voices in the world. She can write to so all around she is just amazing

Can't understand some people. C'mon... Iris DeMent is one pretty lady and she has one hell of a pretty voice too. Glad my father pointed me towards her singing!

10 years ago I saw this beautiful girl in a blue print dress holding a guitar 3/4 her own size. She was as beautiful as her voice. Then she sat at the piano and sang Wasteland of the Free.
We're all a bit older now(hey, Steve Earl sung at the same gig and, & man, the hard living caught up with him). But to post that Iris isn't good looking? Shallow, shallow, shallow, shallow. it sure is a Wasteland when women have to conform to barbie steriotypes and can't be real women anymore.
