Rare (deleted) 1966 recording with Martin Carthy, guitar & Dave Swarbrick, fiddle. One of several recordings made over the years, in which Carthy has accompanied others on this song. His solo version is to be found on "Crown of Horn" album. Had to put this up for the brilliant guitar. The only compilation album of her today is listed as a 3 album set, but none of the material on this album is on it. This would be her best song ever, maybe followed by Masters of War (not this album). All other tracks on this album accompanied on guitar by John Renbourn,

  • beautiful song , beautifully song. I've been searching for a song I believe was on this album called Brain Blood Volume . Any chance of you putting it on You Tube ?

  • Brain Blood Volume always seemed a bit gorey to me, however, consider it posted. I think various music critics around the world have always rated GEORDIE as her best, indeed, it is 1 of say 3 that started my interest in folk, leading to a big love of the work of Martin Carthy, Bert Jansch & others.-- Regards.

  • PPS: I am surprised no one has yet asked me about her song Changes, that the album is named after.--It is also a fine song, written by Phil Ochs. -- Other songs on the album are early writings from people like Bob Dylan & Gordon Lightfoot.

  • thanks for the quick answer. well i suppose it is a traditional song and sandy denny learned it elsewhere. thanks for the tip on Silly Sisters.

  • Yes, it is trad. I am in the process of doing the "Crown of Horn" album now, so check again un 10 or 15. Look under Martin Carthy. Rgds.

  • Crown of Horn extract on it's way. You may be able to access it in 10 mins or less.

  • Sandy Denny may have got the odd thing from Anne Briggs, but I doubt it with this. I know another version involving Martin Carthy is on youtube from the "Silly Sisters" album by June Tabor & Maddy Prior. That aside, from the "Crown of Horn" album, Martin Carthy. If it is not up, I may put it up. Let me know.

  • wow amazing song. I new the song from Sandy Denny but she sings different verses :-). Does anyone know where i can find the entire lyrics?

  • Very beautiful song . Thank you Laurence
