Israeli Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch has reprimanded striking medical residents saying they are "taking the law into their own hands." Hundreds of medical students, residents, and senior doctors have gone on strike with many offering letters of resignation. The State Prosecutor asked Israel's Labor Court to hold the doctors in contempt of court, but the Labor Court granted the doctors an extension until 12pm Friday (today) to submit their response. Court President Beinisch has now ordered doctors to resume work and negotiations with the Finance Ministry by Sunday, or submit a response to the National Labor Court over the contempt-of-court charges.

JN1 talks to the doctors and students on strike in Tel Aviv. Many complain about the lack of adequate facilities, 30-hour shifts, and low salaries. Almost a year of negotiations between doctors and the Health Ministry have not produced any viable agreement, and if medical residents and senior doctors continue the strike, they risk facing prosecution.
