The beautiful Aishwarya Rai enacting the role of the famous Lucknawi courtesan Umrao Jaan. Although the film flopped at the box office, I thought she did a superd job even if her Urdu accent was atrocious at times.

...Had all the vital elements that qualified them as lovers so i guess after the physical act of love making umrao had qualified herself as a complete lover.,hence the title 'umrao jaan'.
P.s this endearment is still used in muslim community of north india where not just lovers but any1 who is dear is refered to as it.. Like father,mother etc

.'jaan' is an endearment often used by lovers. The literal meaning of the term is 'life'. Although i saw the movie really long time back so i dont exactly remember in which scene she was titled as 'jaan'.,however i believe that was because those women were very different from the courtisans today coz they also gave emotional and intellectual satisfaction (not just physical). Hi I'm a puertorican and I'm very much into Hindu dance. I have watched this video so many times that I end up buying the movie. There is one part that I didn't get. Could someone tell me why after Umbrao had sex for the first time she went from Umbrao to Umbrao Jaan? Please could someone explain to me? Thanks in advance

@LoveSenseDimension She really does have brown eyes. Someone posted photos of her younger when she entered her pagents and such, and yes, her eyes are brown, not blue. She probably wears them to look more exotic.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is she wearing contacts? I'm only wondering because I've seen pictures of her and her brown eyes and on movies too. I don't understand why people do that, why would u cover up beautiful brown eyes and be fake about it?
