In 1979-1980 this came in a packet like Kool Aid that you added sugar to make a half gallon and it was made in North Carolina. Today the individual packets taste like some kind of chemical.

This character's name is Punchy and he was the Hawaiian Punch mascot. And nobody gave this commercial a second thought as to violence or anything back then. The reason it was stopped being used is that people simply got tired of him and the company that owned the brand RJ Reynolds decided it didn't need to advertise on TV anymore. My dad used to work for the company that represented this brand and I remember these details.
