just tape a piece of negative photo film over the lense. preferably one which has been exposed but no photo was taken so it has nothing on it except the orange color

sony handycams you just need to open up and remove the iR filter and replace it with a uv filter if needed or just clear glass. this gets around firmware disable of exposure in nightshot that some of later tape and HD and newer models.
any geeks want to hack firmware via usb to make it even easier?
