More details:
_____________
The Manganiyars is a singers' community from western Rajasthan. Singing & composing for occasions is their traditional business. Be it a wedding, a birth, a change of season or a festival, the Manganiyars are called to compose & sing. The music of the Manganiyars borders on the classical with a touch of Sufism. Their songs describe the life of the people of the land. The singers have mastery in playing various instruments like Khamaycha (a string instrument played with a bow-only Manganiyars can play it), Murli (a big flute), Surnai (big bass flute), the Afgoza (double flute), the Morchhang (Jewish harp) and the Khartaal (type of castanets). The tradition is centuries old and still going strong, with the Manganiyars having expanded their reach to the global level
