For years, a small group of friends from New Orleans nurtured a dream to bring their extraordinary dance moves to the streets of the city -- and beyond. In 2009, they began to make that dream a reality -- and the 610 Stompers were born.
This diverse group of ordinary men came together that summer, honing their moves in preparation for the group's planned debut in Mardi Gras 2010.
Fate intervened. . .
The historic march of the New Orleans Saints to the Superbowl that year presented the Stompers with two unexpected opportunities that would change the arc of their trajectory -- before they had even taken off.
Dancing before jubilant crowds in the Buddy D and Superbowl parades, the 610 Stompers instantly made their mark, becoming New Orleans' newest entertainment icons. Since then, their star has been steadily rising, with no end in sight.
The 610 Stompers have performed at countless parades and charity events in and around New Orleans, have danced at Saints and Hornets games and earned a feature role in the Hornets' successful "I'm In" campaign. They've appeared on the Tonight Show and 60 Minutes and will soon take their moves to the streets of New York City, dancing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, with even more exciting performances on the horizon. Along the way, they've donated tens of thousands of dollars to local and national charities.
The 610 Stompers are a diverse group of ordinary men, from their twenties to their sixties. Doctors and lawyers... professionals and laborers... students, teachers and parents... They're different but they're also the same, brought together and driven by the desire to entertain the world with their extraordinary moves.
They've already shown their beloved community of New Orleans what they can do... the rest of America -- and the world -- are next.
