Short excerpts from comments by Freightliner workers at a support meeting for them in Chicago, Feb. 2, 2008. Five workers at the Freightliner plant in Cleveland, N.C., are fighting to get their jobs back after the company fired 11 members of United Auto Workers Local 3520's negotiating committee for leading what it claimed was a wildcat strike on April 3, 2007 after a contract expired. Six of the workers were reinstated. But five of them—Robert Whitside, Allen Bradley, David Crisco, Glenna Swinford and Franklin Torrence—are still out of a job. They fought for and won unemployment, but the benefits have long since run out. For more information, visit www.justice4five.com Produced by Labor Beat. Labor Beat is a CAN TV Community Partner. • Saltillo Mexico plant only produces 8 trucks daily......the cost per truck is about 50% higher than American built.......because of added security busing of employees and higher electric costs all while sales orders are off by 80% of normal. Daimler trucks has proven losses before as well as Chrysler some say they lost about -40 billion so far. (Its just a bad company that makes good product) Freightliner was the best when CF owned it.
