We have been holding these events for kids since 2002. Six Years later many of the same kids still compete in Pankration and Jiujitsu, Wrestle in High School and College, a few even fight professionaly. I cannot think of one who is not well mannered respectfull, both then and now. This is a sport to them, not combat. Martial Arts are supposed to teach discipline, respect and citizenship. This does all that. Probally more so than other sports.
Spartancs- thanks for excellent reply. Under your knowledgeable influence, I'm positive your "boys" will neither be bullies or arrogant.
I'm sold on ur astute point: "danger of arrogance/disrespect is thre in all contact sports". Indeed in all of life by any of those who let their superiority go foolishly to their heads. Potential here to give mental and physical strength, self-discipline & confidence! Too bad I didn't have this early advantage. Dr. R Witmer PhD Motivational Sport Specialist
I'd be glad to Speed. My boys started with highly structured and respect oriented Traditional Martial Arts. They now train in BJJ, Muay Thai & Wrestling & love it. They like the variety and they know they aren't wasting time learning things that aren't useful.
It may be hard for some people to accept but the kids I know that compete in these events are respectful competitors. It really is a sport to them. I think the danger of arrogance and disrespect is there in all contact sports.
Spartanc, what dragonfist25 is suggesting perhaps - is that kids this age no matter how tough or skilled "May" have developement problems owing to this at such an early age w/o proper guidance to ensure an improper mind-set of "Might makes Right" doesn't sit-in. Can You Shed Some Light On Such Concerns? Thanks! :)
