The noises sound like Helper from the Venture Bros.

Wacky death metal noises? Definitely sounds like death metal anyway!

Dudes my favorite part is the fucking death metal noise part, the rest sucks lol. Fucking neighbor annoyer right here, I fucking love it!

@fckth3systm actually, no they aren't pick scratches, they are wacky death metal noises. Mastodon called upon the power of the construct elk goddess Technologias to create them. welcome to progressive metal.

>Mastodon
>Death Metal
Fucking posers.

Wow this video was loud! but sick as well!

what is that game ? ha
If by wacky deathmetal noise you mean the pick scratches, i don't understand why everyone knocks that part. All of those noises are made the same way that Tom Morello does most of his wacky solos, and they call him a genius for it, but to me its boring as hell. Brett makes his guitar sound like its actually talking without a talkbox or killswitch and you call it wacky deathmetal. Its fucking genius.

I don't fault him for that. He's very technically impressive, but so's Buckethead and a lot of his stuff is grating to my ears.
And no matter how awesomely amazing his technique for it is, it's a jarring part of the song. I know it's written that way, I know it's supposed to do that, yadda yadda. But the plain and simple fact of the matter is, *I* don't care for them. That doesn't mean they're bad by any measure, I would just rather the song without 'em.
Cheers.

No, it's fine. I know what you mean about the Youtube idiots. UGH! But regardless, you meant well, you were defending your genre.

I understand what deathmetal vocals are, but regardless it's a dischordant, chaotic few measures that don't mesh well with the rest of the song. I know that's the point, and I know that it wouldn't be Mastodon without that part, but I still don't care for it nearly as much as I do for the rest of the song.
