In front of the bar at Mr. Burtman's New York penthouse, we're introduced to Jenifer, a long-legged blond with buoyant pony tail. In pumps with five-inch heels and a studded patent leather bra and panty set, she demonstrates the length of her whip. A squib tells us of J's successful career in burlesque.

The remainder of the issue presents excellent photographs of men showing off their femininity backstage and onstage. The first pictorial shows us the dressing room of New York's 82-Club, as entertainers get ready to perform. Many are pictured onstage in fringes, feathers, chiffon, satin, and lamé.

Two features present glammed-up party-goers at impersonation events. Saul Segal and Frankie Quinn hosted the Variety Club's Thanksgiving Ball. Lovelies of all sizes and descriptions expose their feminine side in glittering dresses with lots of frills. At Dayzee Dee's Thanksgiving Ball, participants paraded in a rainbow of fabrics and styles in what looks like a costume contest.

After Robin Roberts poses provocatively poolside, he goes indoors to put on makeup, hosiery, foundation garments and wigs. Then, he displays his feminine curves in a tight, glittery sheath, long gloves and matching boa.

A photo album of made-up faces and figures, Queens in Drag pictures 20 female impersonators in their work clothes. In Hawaiian Honies, we meet a pretty brunette in a pants suit who changes into stockings, corset, gloves and boots. We see Dale Roberts backstage, adjusting his wig, applying makeup.

A cross-dressing night club performer is the first-person narrator of The Tough Transvestite short story. He tells of knockout experiences with both men and women.

The digital replica contains all the content of original 100-page magazine, including advertising. Some page layouts have been revised slightly. Photographs have been adjusted in pursuit of clarity and provide a better view than the original. The page sequence has been revised to obtain continuity of picture sets and the story. The original Goldstripe zine has an excellent assortment of content, and the ebook provides the best mechanism for enjoying it.

Published in 1971, the second Eros Goldstripe edition of Female Mimics is available in ebook [pdf] form at
