Good question about word count and e-books. I wonder if we won't see a sort of "director's cut" or "extended editions" of epic fantasy in the future. They can release a shorter, more profitable I guess, version for the bookstores and then release the full-on version for e-books. This could be very profitable for the publishers of course because this can lead to people buying both versions.
