Geoffrey Oryema, native of Uganda, became a well known musician while living in France in the 1980's. He was forced to flee Uganda during Idi Amin's rule because of safety issues after his father was assasinated. He sings in Swahili, Acholi, French and English.

In this song Geoffrey is singing in Alur. This language is spoken in province Orientale in Congo (RD), in Uganda and in Kenya. Can't tell where you can learn it. You're welcome in east Africa :-)

June 1979, Kampala, the white women had left Uganda, I arrived. Memory comes up... beautyful country, however,sadness, tears, hunger, misery all over. Hearing Oryema's song I feel like in exile today.
