Virtual-On OT Tribute: Apharmd B vs Temjin

Fast-paced mecha battle! This is an edited reply between a DNA Apharmd B (me) and an RNA Temjin (CPU, mission #7, max difficulty), with personalized intro segment.

Wasn't doing so hot at first, then made a dramatic comeback. Threw the rest of the video together today in my free time.

From "Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram," a 1999 Dreamcast vector-based fighting game, sequel to arcade hit "Cyber Troopers Virtual-On." Known for its unique, twin-stick controller and intricate gameplay.

What's with the DBZ-esque finisher? Havent touched a Virtual On game since the demo for Operation Moongate, so if this is some sort of new mechanic...

That's a special move for Apharmd B, Hyper Mode; temporary increase in mobility. Worked nicely here because it allowed me to just barely escape Temjin's bomb and off him with melee. But it was just a flashy flourish that happened to work through luck.

It's not just special moves that changed from VOOM, VOOT has more or less completely different mechanics. When I made this video I was pretty new at it. Hadn't even mastered jump canceling yet, which makes a huge difference.

Sorry to hear about the loss of this arcade...

I would love to find a place anywhere in the US that had the arcade version of OT, seems pretty rare. A handful of places have OM, but even they're getting scarce.
