From what we've seen and heard, the stellar and surprising performances from the Guinean group Les Espoirs de Coronthie, the hybrid and rebellious rock music of Amazigh (Algeria-France) and the elegance and depth of the trio led by the pianist DORANTES (Spain) are all worth pointing out. These three compact, daring and modern music acts stood out way above the rest. Babel Med's symbol is the zebra. If Babel Med's organisers were to give a prize (let's call it the Golden Zebra) to the best artist, it would be given to one of the three mentioned artists without a doubt. I would go for Dorantes, no doubt about it. The artist from Seville gave us a flamenco flavour and feeling and was considerably influenced by Cuban tumbao drum music. Blended, compact and beautiful pieces that were so good he came back out to play again, very rare for a show case, which made it more like a concert. After this act it became difficult to listen to any other kind of music, but luckily there wasn't much else happening. Enrique Romero for Gladys Palmera.com
