Call it a rant. Call it an educational video. But something's fishy with the information on youtube's copyright tips page.

So, I compared their tips to the copyright info on the U.S. government's official copyright page concerning "fair use". Here are the links for those pages.

  • How did you get the effect?

  • @TruthSurge True true.

  • @demonman905 No need for apology. I didn't take it as ranting or anything. I do the same thing. I just state what I believe in a sort of forceful (perhaps) manner. I probably don't do conversation very well. I always feel as if I'm just typing what I believe and not really making others feel all cozy and happy. :) I agree, though. There are those who are trying to steal and make $. Then you have folks just having fun. Big difference.

  • @TruthSurge I would like to fully apologize if that came on as a rant. I actually wanted that to appear as a normal. not over the top conversation. And I also agree that people who sell non official DVD's should be stopped. But people who want to just want to make people laugh, and not to make money should not be stopped. I would also like to reiterate that I am not ranting, just stating my mind. Sorry....

  • @demonman905 That's what I'm saying. His parody is covered under fair use. they CANNOT force him to remove it. If they did, he could take them to court and win hands down and get his lawyer fees paid so he isn't out anything. But for people burning vids and CDs and selling them on the sly, THOSE people should be stopped. That's a legit problem and the law is just there so those types can be prosecuted. taker easy.

  • @TruthSurge Well, Actually, he does a parody. a non-profit parody. He also credits the original creators and companies. but ok. I also know Copyright Law is very important, but sometimes I just find it overkill.

  • @demonman905 well, but copyright law IS needed because not everyone is legit. If he were to be mass producing whatever Yu-gi-oh is and selling it on the side w/o giving an agreed % to the copyright holder, that's wrong. He's making $ off it but the people who actually made it are not! But, a company attacking someone just for putting out samples that they are not selling is sort of dumb, I agree. Lots of free advertising is getting attacked and hey, it's their loss!

  • @TruthSurge Look at Little Kuribboh for example, Because of him, Yu-gi-oh is now more popular than ever! and yet the stupid company bashes him for making their "Product" known more around the world. Sometimes I wish that stupid policy was never even conceived of.

  • @MrDemonJesus666 yeah, it's often blown out of proportion.

  • you would think that people wouldnt complain about copyright infringement if they are getting credited in said video. If anything, it helps them get farther in life because its basically just advertising...
