Dave Renzi, Republican candidate for State Senate in the 48th Senate District, appearing on WATN radio's Hotline, calls on Albany to enact a tax cap to provide relief from soaring property taxes for overburdened New York taxpayers. Hardworking New York taxpayers pay the highest property tax in the nation, and Gov. Paterson has proposed a tax cap as a way to slow the rising cost. But the Legislature has not acted on the tax cap plan.
In addition to capping taxes, Senate candidate Renzi also has called on state government to assume a larger share of education costs as a way to lower tax bills.
And he promised that, as Senator, he'll fight to increase the share of school aid to schools in Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence Counties. In this year's budget, local school districts in the 48th SD received $1 million less in state aid than originally proposed, while districts downstate and outsgide the 48th SD shared in a $400 million increase. The shortfall could be directly blamed for higher property tax bills.
