Workforce Advantage teachers met on February 5, 2011 to explore Dr. Gattegno's Silent Way approach in an effort to become more proficient in subordinating teaching to learning.
I am a future ESL teacher and am a fan of the Silent Method for accuracy in pronunciation, but I don't understand how you can use it to present grammar. I understand that the present perfect form is being modeled by pointing to the necessary words, but how is the form taught to begin with? How do the students understand how to use the present perfect? I would think that there needs to be some sort of grammar presentation before getting to this point. What does the "flow" look like?
