QY70 + 404 = Deadly Combo :)

QY is a really powerful sequencer.

A lot of options, really ease to work with.
Overdub,
Step Edit,
Quantizing,
Swing,
Midi out'n'in,
micro keyboard,
Song and pattern modes,
a lot of EDITABLE voices (cutoff, resonance + attack, decay, release ),
Groove patterns,
effects like reverb, chorus etc. and much more!

plus my little, unfuckwitable buddy - 404 :)

Little demo of QY70's Bass sounds:

normal: http://www.zshare.net/audio/55872638b4d33da5/

with distortion effect: http://www.zshare.net/audio/55872717fe4512e6/

Of course the distortion effect could be modified in really a lot of ways (drive, EQ LowFreq, EQ LowGain, LPF Cutoff, OutputLevel) so it's hard to present all of the possible sounds :)

  • Hey Elhau, this is Formal from the SP-Forums. I just picked up the qy100 and I was wondering if you could make a little tutorial video of hooking it up with the SP404. Just a basic tutorial for midi, sequencing, and how the patterns work on the QY. I am sequencing the 404 with a Roland Groovebox right now, so I doubt it'd be much different, but it would sure be a big help to all of us out here in youtube land.

  • @nuemerik

    what up st224er

I lost my qy long time ago so Im not gonna make any other video about that.

as for hooking things up, you can utilize only midi out of qy combined with midi in of 404. Not much is needed aside from connecting both machines with cable. the most important info is that each track of qy corresponds to different midi channel. Track 1 is midi channel 1, track 2 i channel 2 and etc. 404 can only use 2 channels at a time so QY's not that good for sequencing 404 unfortunately

  • Yeah, dope beat! But couldn't you do all that with the 404 alone? I mean building up the patterns and playing along to them.

  • yeah, but it's easier with additional sequencer. cuz the 404 one is only 1 track. By combining it with qy70 you get additional 2 tracks ( which you can mute/solo with qy70 )

  • can you hook up a midi keyboard to your yamaha sequencer

and play chords threw the midi keyboard ??

  • yep, midi in on-board

  • ace beat mate, its not often samples mix that well, although i guess they're from the same track obviously

nice to see a different way of looking at an sp404

  • dude, this track is super nice. does the 404 have built in EQ? or any other effects that you can 'beef up' a tune with??

  • Hey! Awesome beat. Just bought a qy70 off eBay. Can't wait ta get it! I already got a sp202, sp303, and a doctor groove. One question. With the qy70, if you have one sample on the sp can you play the sample on the qy keyboard and get different "notes" out if the sample? Or is one note on the qy keyboard just a trigger for the sample?

  • @DjDoobz Oh, and a very last question: with this setup, are you forced to trigger samples with the QY70, or could you trigger them with the SP (and still sequence it in the QY70)?

  • @DjDoobz So is it possible to have MIDI and AUDIO on different channels in my computer sequencer (let's say Logic or Cubase)? I plan to buy a SP-555, as the thing is quite expensive for me, I really want to know its abilities... Thanks in advance!

  • Wow, instructionnal video! I think that's exactly what I wanted to know! I got a few questions, though, I hope you don't mind... Can I do the same thing with a computer sequencer (replacing your QY70)? What I wanna do is having each sound (drum, kick, hihat, snare) on a different track in my sequencer, to mix it easily.

Another thing, those are MIDI files, that you are sequencing, so I assume that you got each sound on a different chanel. But what about the audio? Is it on different channels too?

  • I (gis_sweden from the SP-forums) use the SP-404 and the older QY-10 sequencer. The built in sound in QY-10 are… not so good so I hook it up with the sound module Yamaha MU80. Compact music…

  • it's a small,but the biggest sound!

  • what exactly does the sequencer do?
