You're under the assumption that spending is the only factor in in our rising debt. If that's the case - you don't even understand how to calculate the debt, let alone propose ideas to fix it. "Invest in tons of worthless shit" Yeah cause bridges and roads and trains don't do anything for anybody.

@Amir883 You are a prime example of a misinformed idiot. Government spending went down from 1993-Bush. That's what balanced the budget, not tax increases. You obviously haven't paid attention to anything Obama has said over the years. He wants to "invest" (i.e., spend our tax dollars) on tons of worthless shit. So obviously he's not interested in balancing the budget.

@Drahthaar422 Just to clarify the Congress With (not 'and' as I stated) Newt had nothing to do with the budget surplus. Newt wasn't speaker and Republicans didn't run the house till the middle of Clinton's first term, after the 1993 budget had passed.

@Drahthaar422 That 1993 budget included the tax increases that lead the way to create the surplus. The Congress and Newt Gingrich (the Speaker) had nothing to do with the budget surplus. That's a common FOX news talking point that negates actual history.

If we went by your 3rd grade comprehension level analysis - the Government would never balance the budget no matter how low spending is and how low taxes are because "they wouldn't put taxes towards balancing the budget." Oh and by the way, no Republican voted for Clinton's budget in 1993.

@Drahthaar422 So thank you for sharing the FOX news talking points. When Vice President Dick Cheney said, "Deficits don't matter", it clearly meant - "Deficits only matter when we're not in office". You don't want to end the wars, you don't want to end the rich tax cuts, you don't want to end huge subsidies to oil/nuclear/coal. It should be noted that the last time the budget was balanced it was under Clinton. $200billion surplus that Bush wasted.

@Drahthaar422 First, I love how NOW deficits matter. The $5trillion Bush added was fine, but now? Crisis! Second, the deficit got larger because at the end of the Bush Administration, 5 million people lost their jobs. Tax payers no longer were paying any taxes. Second, when he tried to let the Bush Era tax cuts expire for the richest people (to bring in revenue) it got shot down. Republicans aren't serious about the debt. If they were they wouldn't be trying to lower taxes all over the place.
