No you can't adjust the gap, it is set. Actually the unit is not too big compared to some of the other saws were have seen. Watching it back on the video, it does look kinda of big. It is primarly designed for cutting pipe and some other materials. Dan is into welding and your right, some applications it wouldn't work on
