What does environmental devastation actually look like? At TEDxVictoria, photographer Garth Lenz shares shocking photos of the Alberta Tar Sands mining project -- and the beautiful (and vital) ecosystems under threat.

For almost twenty years, Garth's photography of threatened wilderness regions, devastation, and the impacts on indigenous peoples, has appeared in the world's leading publications. His recent images from the boreal region of Canada have helped lead to significant victories and large new protected areas in the Northwest Territories, Quebec, and Ontario. Garth's major touring exhibit on the Tar Sands premiered on Los Angeles in 2011 and recently appeared in New York. Garth is a Fellow of the International League Of Conservation Photographers

right now alternative energies are not subsidized, Take away the Oil subsidies and alternative will come out cheaper, even then when you factor in the hidden costs the subsidies don't even add up.

 We are investing in alternative energy. Solar is the second fastest growing source of energy in the US. But we also need to stop projects like Keystone XL, and you're doing no-one any favors by trying to pretend it's either-or.

I'm not paid by corporations nor do I do their dirty work. I couldn't care less about any kind of political motivation one might have either way on the subject. I follow the data and analyse it within context of all forms of energy production necessary for maintaining a rising global population of 7 billion people. I am opposed to northern gateway fyi. I suggest learning about the actual operation, technologies and future direction of the oil sands. Stop hijacking the opinion of others.
