In 2009 I visited Longyearbyen too. Onboard an Air Berlin Airbus A320. Group-Operator was "airevents.de". Besides a Bus-Sightseeing-Tour we have made a ship-cruise and enjoyed very old Antartic Ice-Cubes. It was an unforgettable yourney.

@scaremenga It's look amazing the only problem I'd have is the weather from a Aussie prospective I'd be freezing however it would be interesting landing when the area is totally dark for 3 months.

Well in fact it wasn't a smooth landing but nevertheless a safe one as the runway was slippery due to the snow and ice which required a point landing.

Well when it comes to the polar night you wouldn't be able to take such a shot at dusk ;-) And an Aussie is also able to put on a winter jacket. It was around -15°C then in late October.
