Florida gar eats crayfish

Alligator gar swallows crayfish whole. Takes him a while. Taken in the old 55 gallon tank.

My pacu loves my Florida gar! They swim around together and there has been 0 aggression! So That's weird yours are harrasing your gars

@aaronschool296 Just to clarify - there was never any aggression between the gar and pacu. The gar had caught a rather large goldfish and was preparing to turn it sideways and swallow it, the pacu seeing the goldfish caught/stationary swam up biting at the fish, snagged the gars jaw and literally just ripped it down/twisted it. I don't believe it was intentional - the pacu is just that dumb..

Thank you! Bad news, he was killed by my Pacu about a month ago. He caught a fish and was waiting to turn it sideways to swallow it when the Pacu attacked the fish (since it was stationary) and bit off the gar's lower jaw in the process. I treated the tank, but in the end I think he died of starvation as he couldn't eat anything. It was sad. I would like to get another in the future though as I really enjoyed the one I had for 2.5 years.

How big is that? How big does it get? I was just wondering so i wont have to worry about it being too big to be with a chain pickerel and maybe some perch in my 150 gallon tank. Thanks.

I love my Gar. Sucks that the Pacu ripped the lower jaw off. I would have being so sad. I have an Alligator Gar. Soon upgrading him to a 55.

@kingtr the same thing happened to me! i had a florida gar, but my pacu got him.

I know.. More importantly, I don't know if you read my comment (response) above, my Gar died.

He trapped a fish, was preparing to turn it to swallow it when the Pacu swam over and bit the fish AND the Gar's lower jaw.

He tore 2/3 of his lower jaw off. I treated the tank, but he couldn't eat, he died about 2-3 weeks later. Not happy about it... I'd like another in the future, just not sure when...
