This evening, July 2nd, 2009, we discovered several catfish walking down our street in Wesley Chapel. We collected about 20 ourselves and returned them to the nearby retention pond and others in the neighborhood were doing the same. We're guessing that it has something to do with all the heavy rain we've been getting but we're really not sure how they got up to the street. It's got to be about 200ft from the water to the road. Definitely strange.

  • these catfish are called walking catfish and they have lungs like organs in their body through which they can breathe outside water, they can walk on land to travel to different ponds nearby. But unfortunately there was no other pond for them nearby, in nature they jump out of the water to look for better home of water....

  • Dear Religion, This how everything got started, i was just looking for the next pond across the valley.

  • There's a reason why there out there, they are looking for food lol

  • You must not have any Asians living in the neighborhood...

  • I think these walking catfish are an invasive species in the US. Best to kill them next time they walk down the street.
