In the tradition of James Hilton's 1933 Lost Horizon
In the Tibetan Autonomous Region, stands the Inner Sanctuary, twelve majestic peaks roughly the height of Everest some 8,000 meters tall. The highest at 29,128 feet is Motuo meaning "Hidden Lotus." It forms the eastern anchor of the Himalayan chain, and is the easternmost mountain in the world over 8,000 meters. Because of its unpredictable weather, one hundred mile-per-hour winds, continually falling ice chunks the size of buildings, and bloodthirsty natives, its mile high South West Face, the most dangerous climb in the world, is precisely what beckons the IMAGE' film company and elite alpinists to climb the treacherous peak against all odds.
It is the fall of 1998, 50-years Russian born Russian mystic, painter, philosopher, scientist, writer, traveler, and public figure Nicholas Roerich disapeared from the Kullu Valley in India that a team of confident climbers sets out to summit the face of the world's tallest mountain known as Motuo with notable celebrities and journalists. Not long into their journey, the climbers know they are headed for disaster. Rescue teams from all over the world race to Motuo Base Camp yet only one of the sixty-climbers, Chicago journalist Tim Campbell, survives to face unfounded international accusations as he tells an amazing tale of Khembalung or a Shangri-La.
