just completed final assembly of my scratch built 10 foot wind turbine ( http://www.otherpower.com/turbineplans.shtml ) and couldn't wait till morning to see her fly....but as murphy would have it, no wind. oh well , she is still a thing of beauty! waiting for wind to test output, should yield from100-1000 watts depending on the wind speed, at ave wind of 12-14mph estimate 250 watts with max output of 1 kw in 25 mph wind. used plans by "homebrew wind power" book available on the web.

  • wont the blade take off one of your kids heads? DANGER PUT FENCING

  • @hottieprowelder Its ok , I have 5 kids....just kidding, It was on a test tower for only a few days. It is now safely up on a 60' tilt-up tower. good advice though!!!

  • to make a wind turbine, Can you use a motor from a:

    1) LAWNMOWER

    2) DISHWASHER

    3) WASHING MACHINE

AND WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM WATTS?

    REGARDS!

  • yep, you can, any D/C magnet motor will work but the power output will not be worth it. if you built your own alternator it works better and its fairly easy. this one puts out 1.2 kW max in 28-30mph wind. just get their book and give it a try!

  • Wow, looks great. Looks like a lot of work. It'll really fly at 60'. Suprised they let ya go that high. 30 ' was all they'd give me. Screw em, I'm doin 35. They'll never notice. Do you got batteries/inverter/etc?

  • yep, I had to go before the city zoning and the city board to get approval. I got some 2nd hand solar batts (24v at 1050 Ah) for $600, and a 3kw/6kw inverter for $400. the dump load will go to a 24 v /60 amp water heater element. its all tied into my downstairs electrical box and working- just need MORE WIND!! :). get some video of your stuff too.
