  • The Gleason show was in color starting with the 1966 - 67 season, the jokes referenced in this clip, ie: Goldwater not winning the election, would place it after the 1964 election most likely in 1965. Somthing is not right here. Its a great clip tho!

  • @men4skirts I doubled checked and Groucho appeared on this show which was aired on CBS on Saturday October 14, 1967. It could be that this copy of the show was just in black and white. The movie dateabase also lists this as 1967. So who knows for sure?

  • @men4skirts The end credits also list the copyright as 1967.

  • Based on the comments about the news this would be spring of 65 not 67, and it would be in color in 67!

  • @men4skirts Air date was October14, 1967

  • I think the topical line that cements this show in 1967 is Groucho's crack about Twiggy.

Twiggy didn't hit New York and sweep the American press until March of 1967.

The episode may be in black and white because it was kinescoped that way.

  • Think that watching Groucho still doing the famous loping walk and dancing is amazing considering he'd be in his late seventies when this was made.

  • Are we splitting hairs? Gouucho Marx, Joel Grey, Johney Mathis. This was a great find.

  • @men4skirts Also, the title says "The Jackie Gleason Show". In 1965, Gleason's show was called "Jackie Gleason's American Scene Magazine".

  • When Gleason says, "I hadn't heard any of this before now" I doubt he was kidding. One of the reasons other performers and the general public considered Groucho 'The Greatest' was his ability to ad lib brilliantly usually improving upon the scripted material. He did so throughout his career and should be considered the inspiration for pretty much everyone who improvises.

  • I do enjoy how Jackie is loving the time he's spending with Groucho. It's great.

  • Sammy Spear predated Doc Severinsen with the loud outfits

  • louie or shelly? sometimes? who?

  • @BusterTV1 This is a Kinescope. That is why it is in black and white. Several of these shows exist in color video tape, and were in syndication in the late 80s.

  • @drywits, funny that you mention Al Shean because he was an uncle of the Marx Brothers!
