The fact is well educated people won't vote republican & they don't give a damn about your future. it is only they'res that they are interested in.

I am well aware that the standard of post secondary education in Nevada is low compared to other states, but I am lucky that my pell grants cover all of my tuition. If I recall correctly only students in seven other states are in a similar position.

This is frustrating beyond belief. I have a 3.993 GPA and my tuition is more than my family makes in a year. I am on mostly scholarships, but I depend on the pell grant to help with tuition, books and lab fees. My family has a small home remodeling business and it is feast or famine. This year they probably made about 30,000, versus last years 22,000. This is ridiculous and part of why I don't want to live in the US for the rest of my life. There is no value placed in education anymore.

@bdyan1 Hard work...ha! Tell them to tell that to the poor people who are slaving away for long hours for pennies while these rich people reap the rewards of THEIR hard work. Truth is many of these rich people get rich off the backs of others. It's mercantilism. There is a fixed amount of wealth in the world. When one person gains financially, another loses. Apparently, they were too busy thinking of what to spend their millions on to pay attention to this in history class...

@rjbonacolta I met a guy at my community college back in 2005 or 2006 who was in the military (and was even injured overseas), but the government had actually tried to get out of giving him his college money. He had to fight to get it. Tight-fisted bastards...
-
@treyatl2006 I thought that you had to be full-time for a Pell grant. I've been on it for years, and that's always been my understanding.
-
@iamsean90 No.... When I was going part time I received reduced Pell grants. It really depends on the school.
-
Fact: I had to join the army to pay for school. I don't mind I was going to anyway really, but as an only child of a middle class single mother I somehow don't qualify for tuition assistance and I'm smart enough to know that student loans will crush me. We really need to fix this system.

@lordblazer yeh u r so right! some of my fellow students r libertarian/republican in their beliefs, alot of them disagree with taxing the rich because they see it as punishing them for working hard and all these BS. the also believe they will be rich after they graduate. i think the conservatives have brainwashed alot of americans .

@moviedude22 i don't want there to be any discrimination. I want equal opportunity for all. I believe everyone should be able to afford college so it will not be harder for poorer americans. However, i believe in academic fairness as well. An aptly qualified asian should not be rejected over other races white, hispanic or black just because the university wants more diversity. Its not easy to get good SAT scores or be involved in the community it takes time and effort.

"If the government doesn't look after people, what is it for?"
apparently 30 or so years ago a bunch of people got together and decided the American Dream was not a house, picket fence, and a decent single-income lifestyle.. but rather it was to be super-rich. The govt has since been working on making sure there are a few well stuffed super-rich and protecting them from everything.

This sucks... Not only are we getting hit with tuition increases for the 3rd str year in a row, now our pell grants are getting cut. Students who are half time are going to be drastically affected since it takes twice as long to graduate. Also students who change their majors are also going to be affected.
