'Endemic' rape and abuse of Irish children in Catholic care, inquiry finds
Beatings and humiliation by nuns and priests were common at institutions that held up to 30,000 children, Ryan report states
Rape and sexual molestation were "endemic" in Irish Catholic church-run industrial schools and orphanages, a report revealed today.
The nine-year investigation found that Catholic priests and nuns for decades terrorised thousands of boys and girls in the Irish Republic, while government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rape and humiliation.
The high court judge Sean Ryan today unveiled the 2,600-page final report of Ireland's commission into child abuse, which drew on testimony from thousands of former inmates and officials from more than 250 church-run institutions. Police were called to the news conference amid angry scenes as victims were prevented from attending.
More than 30,000 children deemed to be petty thieves, truants or from dysfunctional families a category that often included unmarried mothers were sent to Ireland's austere network of industrial schools, reformatories, orphanages and hostels from the 1930s until the last facilities shut in the 1990s.(...)

@gabriel38974 I like bending over the nuns and making the blood of Christ come out their asses in the confession box.

@smiletolifeny Hey suck my cock. I am a Catholic priest and God speaks directly to me. Accept Christ now or forever be damned to the flames of Hell after the world ends on December 21, 2012 (it's in the book of Revelations).

The problem is the perverted power the Catholic church exorcises over the lives of its members.I was ordered to be beaten in front of the whole school by a catholic priest. He singled me out at random to demonstrate his power. The teacher who carried it out knew it was wrong but he shrugged his shoulders and beat me with a leather strap. All religion is a confidence trick. No religions should be represented in schools if we are to break the contagion that infects the mind down the generations.

"The pope himself to initiate his own Vatican inquiry."
What for? The Ratzinger is well aware of what went on, he was involved in the cover-up. The REAL next step is to drive the Church from Ireland.

Portland Oregon USA. Bishop Vlazny wages a vicious war again the victims of clergy sexual abuse. On his website he encourage the victims to come forward to trap them and to eliminate the future threat in the case they sue the diocese in the future. Many victims only ask for counselling not money.
But you already know that. Keep name them and shame them.

@001Dixie The presence of religious oppression in no way detracts from the gravity of imperialist (cultural, economic, political) oppression. Why do you think the CC has been such a vital aspect of Irish identity in the past? I do not condone any violence, but if you are suggesting the Irish should love the English because of the misdeeds of the CC it shows a failure on your part to see the interconnections/intersections of race, power, class, politics, all these things. FAIL

thank you for your insight I am sadden by the missused of spiritual power of some bishops specially bishop Vlazny. His diocese is overrun by money hungry diocese lawyers and his vicar Brennan should be indicted for covering up bad priests. Their strategy is secrecy, our is speaking up. Name them, shame them. oh boy they hate that.

Please forgive them. They're just human beings like us. I learned to forgive and forget. No hurt feelings.
