We went to Maryland to visit my Sister on February 3rd . Most of the way we took the Pennsylvania turnpike. It is also known as the tunnel highway for it's 4+ miles of tunnels bored through the Appalachian Mountains.

The mountains with tunnels are the Blue Mountain, Kittattiny Mountain, Tuscarora Mountain, Sideling Hill, Ray's Hill, Allegheny Mountain, and Laurel Hill.

Most of the tunnels were originally bored for the South Pennsylvania Railroad.
This is some HD video of the tunnels as we drove through them.

  • the original tunnel of this set is deteriorating. they are thinking about making a third tunnel to get travellers out of that tunnel.

  • @theliftchannel they will probably just blast a path through the mountain. What do you think?
