I thought we hadnt figured out the reason for muscle soreness yet. It is true that microtrauma occurs yes, but at the time when soreness appears, all microtrauma is long gone and the muscle is trengthened. But bradykinin and prostaglandins could be an explanation, just havent seen any research confirming that

the burning sensation is not caused by lactic acid, lactic acid makes your muscles acidic waking up the dormant enzyme called Cathepsin which feeds the muscle tissue which puts you in a catabolic state,,,,WHICH gives your e.g calves that burning feeling not allowing you to finish your marathon, 5k, 10k, etc.
